“I learnt a lot during this time and due to that mistake Pakistan cricket’s reputation suffered badly”
Umar Akmal, a Pakistan batter, has apologised for failing to disclose corrupt approaches last year, which resulted in a 12-month ban.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) punished Akmal, 30, last year for failing to report spot-fixing approaches made to him prior to the commencement of the 2020 PSL.
“I committed a mistake that cost me my cricket and my career seventeen months ago,” Akmal confessed i
n a video posted by the PCB on Wednesday as part of his reintegration and rehabilitation process. “During this time, I learned a lot, and Pakistan cricket’s reputation suffered greatly as a result of that blunder. I beg the PCB’s pardon, as well as the forgiveness of cricket lovers all around the world.”
The ban has been a “really trying period for him,” according to Akmal.
“Some persons approached me, but I was unable to submit them to the anti-corruption section, resulting in a 12-month suspension.” Despite being a cricketer, I couldn’t play the game. “I learned a lot during that period, and today I confess before all of you that that mistake plunged Pakistan cricket into shame.”
